SANT'ANNA Apartment - Lucca
In the heart of Lucca, the renovation of a 1960s apartment gives rise to a fluid interior, where natural light flows through the spaces and reveals a refined interplay of materials, combining the warmth of oak with a palette of botanical tones.
In the Sant’Anna district of Lucca, the renovation of a 1960s apartment redefines the quality of everyday living through a meticulous contemporary reinterpretation of its spaces. The project moves beyond the fragmentation of the original layout to create an airy home, where fluid spaces unfold in an uninterrupted visual continuum.
Natural light, the true protagonist of the interior, is enhanced by the new, more generous proportions and reflected across modern, entirely bespoke furnishings. Each space is conceived as part of a coherent narrative, where natural materials, warm tones and custom-designed statement features are carefully balanced, giving the entire home a distinctive and recognisable identity.
From a technological perspective, the integration of latest-generation systems and underfloor heating ensures high standards of energy efficiency. The result is a home centred on wellbeing, reinterpreting the past through a distinctly contemporary approach to create a warm, welcoming environment designed for maximum comfort.
The balance of the living area is shaped by a carefully considered dialogue between materials and colour. The warm grain of oak, defining both the parquet flooring and the imposing full-height bookcase, blends with a soothing palette dominated by shades of green, mustard yellow accents and neutral tones. With its rhythm of vertical elements creating compartments of varying depths, the bookcase displays books, ceramic vases and a small spherical lamp with a green base, introducing warm points of light into the composition. Opposite, the beige sofa faces large glazed openings softened by sheer curtains that filter the natural light.
In the kitchen, the softly curved profile of the central wooden island contrasts with the clean lines of matt green cabinetry, complemented by black details in the taps and slender tubular pendant lights suspended at different heights above the grey terrazzo-effect stone worktop. The layout is enhanced by clever spatial solutions, including a niche integrated into the cabinetry: an olive-green upholstered seat framed by fluted panels in the same tone and complemented by a circular backlit mirror that visually expands the space.
Around the oak dining table, mustard yellow chairs complete the composition, adding a vibrant touch of colour while maintaining the calm, balanced character of the interior.
Clean lines and a refined attention to material details also define the more private areas of the home, guided by a highly expressive lighting design. Along the corridor, a sculptural composition of backlit plaster discs leads towards the sleeping area, while a niche clad in olive-green fluted panels houses an upholstered seat illuminated by a circular light feature. Controlled through a home automation system integrating LED strips, focused spotlights and wall lights, the lighting adapts the atmosphere to different moments of the day.
In the bathrooms, the smooth surfaces of sage green wall-mounted vanities contrast with the geometric precision of chequerboard tiles in shades of green, beige and mustard, balanced by matt black fittings. In a more understated bathroom, twin countertop basins are complemented by large windows softened by sheer curtains.
The sleeping area continues the same restrained design language: green upholstered headboards blend with walls in matching tones, punctuated by a large circular mirror framed in light wood. Ochre bedside tables hold lamps and plants, while a natural wood wardrobe with recessed sage green handles integrates seamlessly with the wall panelling, creating an intimate and balanced space.
