Gianni Villa - Lucca
A 1950s structure shaped by a series of transformations over time, culminating in its most significant intervention in the early 2000s: a substantial extension that redefined its volumes, spaces and contemporary character.
The flow of the house has been completely reconfigured to embrace natural light: the living area now faces south, opening naturally onto the garden, while the spacious kitchen connects directly with the dining area, creating a welcoming setting for everyday gatherings. Within this context, the authenticity of natural materials comes to life through bespoke wooden furnishings crafted by Progetto Legno, designed around specific everyday needs and complemented by the refined lines of Bonaldo furniture.
The interiors are defined by a soft, understated colour palette, chosen to create an immediate sense of warmth, calm and visual comfort. The perception of each space shifts with the changing light, guided by a bespoke lighting design conceived to create a variety of atmospheres: the warmth of diffused lighting integrated into the furniture blends with the depth of focused spotlights and the visual accents of decorative lamps.
Completing this balance between aesthetics and everyday living is a discreet yet high-performance technological system. A latest-generation home automation system intelligently manages everyday comfort, combining the enveloping warmth of underfloor heating with the gentle freshness of ceiling-integrated WindFree air conditioning.
Unified by the warmth of herringbone oak flooring, enhanced by integrated grazing LED lighting, the living area flows towards the garden through large openings softened by white linen curtains. The lounge features an anthracite-grey bouclé corner sofa, paired with nested coffee tables in veined marble and black metal, facing a suspended wall unit that combines heat-treated oak with off-white lacquered finishes.
Acting as a connecting element between the different spaces, a monolithic built-in volume wraps around the staircase, finished with fluted canetage detailing and enriched by a backlit oak bar niche designed to display glasses and bottles. This central feature naturally leads towards the sage green kitchen, dominated by a monolithic island with softly rounded corners and a cantilevered breakfast counter. Beyond a minimal-framed sliding glass partition, the dining area features an oval marble table beneath a sculptural LED pendant light.
The architectural narrative continues through the corridors and transitional spaces, guided by linear ceiling lighting and seamlessly integrated wall panelling, culminating in an oak console enhanced by a sculptural shell-shaped accent lamp.
In the sleeping area, the project creates an intimate atmosphere shaped by the warm tones of light wood and the softness of textiles. The bedrooms feature bespoke beds with minimalist canopy structures, floating bases enhanced by a subtle line of LED lighting, and generous light-toned wardrobes defined by vertical profiles and floor-level grazing light. The dialogue between slatted wall panelling, full-height sheer curtains and upholstered seating continues naturally through the parquet flooring, leading seamlessly towards the bathrooms.
In the bathrooms, neutral tone-on-tone surfaces alternate with terrazzo-effect accent walls featuring terracotta and grey fragments. Wall-mounted vanities, finished either in wood or in a fluted brick-red texture, are paired with countertop basins, wall-mounted taps and sculpted backlit mirrors, while a freestanding bathtub creates a striking focal point in front of the window.
Throughout the villa, a bespoke lighting system, intuitively controlled through home automation, is structured across three layers: diffused LED lighting integrated into the furniture, adjustable spotlights and decorative fixtures. Underfloor heating and ceiling-integrated air conditioning with gentle air diffusion complete a project centred on wellbeing and year-round comfort.
